James Burrell outlines Fil support for tenth branch

A NORTH East builders’ merchant has praised the ‘family business style’ approach of Fil (formerly Filplastic) after the racking specialist helped launch a new branch in South Yorkshire.

James Burrell Builders’ Merchants opened its 10^th base in Rotherham earlier this year, following the success of their branch in Ossett, West Yorkshire.

Fil worked with Gateshead-based builders’ merchants to redesign the two-acre site on Wortley Road, converting it into an office, trade counter, yard and warehouse.

The East Yorkshire company also supplied and fitted shop shelving and racking for the warehouse and yard.

Tony Hall, Head of Operations at James Burrell, praised Fil for a job well done.

He said: “We’ve worked with Fil for the past three or four years – they do the majority of racking for us – and they are always great to work with.

“The job went very smoothly. Being an independent, it is like working with a family business, which is how we are too. The senior management team at James Burrell is always openly available to customers, staff and suppliers, much the same as they are at Fil.

“That’s what I like about them. That and the fact they provide a first-class service.”

As well as builders’ merchant materials, James Burrell supplies materials for large infrastructure and civil engineering projects such as concrete chambers, manhole covers and large diameter drainpipes.

The company was established in 1877 and is still owned by the Richardson family who founded the business in Gateshead.

Mr Hall added that the latest branch had got off to a flying start.

“Business is booming,” he said.

“We knew it would because Ossett has been trading very well since it launched. In fact, it was drawing customers from South Yorkshire which is why we decided opening up there was a great move.

“We’re very pleased with how the launch has gone, it’s another great depot to add to the James Burrell family.”

“James Burrell is a big name in the North East and Yorkshire,” he said.

“It’s great to be working with such an ambitious company and helping them drive forward their expansion plans.
