Filplastic helps PC Building Supplies turn vision into reality
Filplastic has helped a Hampshire builders’ merchant turn its vision of a new depot into reality with a £70,000 contract.
The Yorkshire-based racking specialist helped PC Building Supplies design and create a bespoke base as the new flagship building at the front of Hardley industrial estate.
The merchant moved from a 1.1-acre site in the centre of Hythe to a 2.5-acre plot on Hardley Industrial Estate where it has extended its operations to include a shop and trade counter, showroom, warehouse and yard.
Filplastic worked with the merchant to design the layout and interior of the new site, as well as supplying racking for all aspects of the development.
Tim Dunning, Director of PC Building Supplies, said the company had searched for three years to find the right location before buying half of the former Racal Recorders site on the outskirts of Hardley. Dunning and his brother, Nick, are the second generation of the Dunning family to run the business, and it had taken three years in the planning and a year in development.
Dunning said: “We needed more space, so we decided to build a new building precisely to our specification.
“We were able to sell off our former site to help fund the move, which meant we were in a good position to create our vision.
“Filplastic worked closely with us to turn our concept into a workable design that would match both our trade and retail customers’ requirements.
“This enabled us to really get the staff on board. They bought into the vision, which was essential to the success of the move.”
As well as working closely with the merchant on the design of the development, Filplastic supplied and fitted pallet racking, cantilever racking and pigeon-hole racking for shop and yard. The company also removed some of the racking and storage solutions from the old site and refitted them into the new building.
Martyn Morgan, Filplastic Business Development Manager for the South West, oversaw the job for the racking supplier.
He said: “This was a fantastic job to work on. PC Building Supplies had firm ideas for what they wanted and articulated them well which meant the job ran smoothly to time and on budget.
“We’re delighted to have played a role in turning their dreams into reality.”
Dunning concluded: “The move has enabled us to become far more efficient than we were. The extra space means the in/out situation for deliveries and collections is much better, which definitely helps keep our customers happy.”
