National Apprenticeship Week 2018
Filplastic UK are celebrating National Apprenticeship Week having recently benefited from three apprentices who have since gone onto securing full time employment with the company following completion of their respective apprenticeships.
Richard Deakin
Richard Deakin, Project Coordinator joined Filplastic in 2011 as a Warehouse Operative Apprentice working at our National Distribution Centre. As Richard grew into the role, the management team was quick to spot Richard's potential and gave him more responsibility as part of the installation team. His attitude and pleasant manner with customers led to him being transferred to the sales office.
Two years ago, Filplastic gave Richard the opportunity to manage and organise installations in a new Project Coordinator role. The company also arranged for him to complete a NEBOSH course because health and safety is key in his new role. As Project Coordinator, Richard oversees up to 30 projects at a time and always finds a solution, with calmness and practicality rarely found in a person of his age. As a result of Richard’s success, he was awarded ‘Employee of the Year’ at the 2018 Goole and Howdenshire Business Excellence Awards.
Lucy Walton
Lucy Walton, Accounts Administrator joined Filplastic in 2014 as a Sales Administrator. After completion of her apprenticeship in 2015, Lucy was offered a role which developed into her current position.
Lucy’s initial role as a Sales Administration Apprentice involved answering phone calls, logging information to the CRM amongst many other tasks. Lucy has since moved into an Accounts role and her daily tasks include processing invoices, updating cashbook, bank payments and managing obligations to suppliers, customers and third-party vendors.
Since undertaking an apprenticeship, Lucy has become a lot more confident and has been able to transfer the skills that she has learnt into a new role.
Ben Carless
Ben Carless, Sales Administrator joined Filplastic in 2016 as a Sales Administration Apprentice. Following his successful apprenticeship, Ben was taken on by the company in January 2018 in a full time role.
Ben arrived into the role straight from school and has been able to develop into a role that encompasses all aspects of working in an office environment from answering incoming calls, providing excellent customer service skills and dealing with incoming queries amongst many other daily tasks.
Having impressed whilst undertaking the apprenticeship, Ben was offered a job which has offered him the chance to progress further and allow him to get more involved with other aspects of the business including providing quotations with the projects sales team.
Ben has benefited massively by undertaking an apprenticeship and as a result he has increased his confidence as well as his knowledge of working in sales and the industry.
